On January 21, 1936, Donald R. Perreault took over a nine-stool diner cart on South Street in Plainville, MA. He threw away the key to remain open 24 hours a day, and the legacy of Don's Diner was born.

The early years saw Don working hard to establish his new business, taking on a second job while he and his wife Jane raised three young children. In 1940, to meet the growing demand for good food, Don convinced many area businesses to allow him to deliver food to their employees on coffee breaks. He transported the food in his own car and carried it into factories in large baskets, creating what is believed to be the first such catering service on the East Coast.

As Don's venture began to take off, news reached Industrial Luncheon Services in Quincy, MA. In the late 1940's, the founder William Rosenberg approached Don about purchasing his catering business. The Perrault's entertained Rosenberg in their living room, but Don ultimately declined his offer. Rosenberg would go on to found Dunkin' Donuts, and Don's Diner would remain in the family.

In October of 1958, Don's son Don W. finished a stint in the U.S. Army and joined his father in the family business. Don W's own sons, Don. Jr. and Perry, would go on to work part-time after school like their father before them and join the diner full-time in the early 1980's. In 1971, Grandpa Don was ready to retire and officially passed the torch on to his son and grandsons.

Today, Don Jr., Perry, and Perry's sons continue to uphold the diner's reputation for good food and a friendly atmosphere. Now in their fourth generation, the Perreault family is proud to uphold the legacy that their great grandfather so humbly began nearly a century ago. We look forward to meeting you!
